Hyperlinking an Image

Making an Image Clickable

In some cases you want to make an image clickable; after all a picture is worth 1000 words. The process of hyperlinking (or simply called linking) in the Mega Mall content editor is similar for images as it is for text. First you select what you want to link then click the Create Link button.  In our example, we’re going to add an affiliate link to the image we insterted before on our home brewing example page here

Adding a link to an image

First we click the image we want to add a hyperlink to. Once the image is selected we will see its Handles.

Next we click the Create Link button.

The next step is to enter the URL.

It should be noted that you can paste a copied link from an affiliate program and it doesn’t have to be a link from one of the Mega Mall affiliate programs. For example it could link to Commission Junction, LinkShare or even be a non-revenue link to Wikipedia for example.

Paste or type in the hyperlink and click the Save button.

Finally and most importantly, check your link.  Click the View link above the editor and this will open the page your are workin on. When the page opens, check the image you just hyperlinked is ok and then click the image. Does it go where you expected it to go? If it does congratulations! If it does not, go and check your link.

Checking a Bad Link

Somtimes humans make mistakes and it results in a bad link. Maybe a link is missing the ‘http://’ part or some other part of the link is malformed. Also, sometimes the page you want to link to has moved.

Links can often be pasted directly into your web browser’s address bar. Do that and click the green arrow to the right of the address bar.

Checking a hyperlink in the address bar

If that doesn’t work, you have a bad URL and it needs to be corrected. Check the URL for anything that looks suspicious. When you have the correct URL, re-link the image by followin the steps above again.

This applies to text links as well as images…

Don’t forget to test your links!

Best wishes,

Inserting a ClickBank Feature Ad

Using Ad Inserts

In your DotStartUp Mega Mall you have a variety of ad services from which you can display ads from. Each of these ads is built into the system and has your ID automatically included in the link.

As our example site is only setup with ClickBank (which is the basic starting arrangement) we are going to learn about previewing and inserting ClickBank feature ads.

We will start in the Body Content Editor and select a for the ad to go in body.

Select where you want the ad to appear
OK, that’s alright then. We see the ad in the new window and we can click Insert This Ad to proceed.

No choose the Ad Service, which in our case is limited to only ClickBank as we have no other Affiliate Programs plugged in yet.

Choose the Ad Type which is 500block. 500block is an approximate square containing three or four image and descriptions. A small image representing the 500block appears to the right of the selectors.

Now choose the category which best matches your page topic. In our example (scrapbooking) the closest we felt was the Home and Family category.

 Selecting either Preview or Insert

Next we have a choice to either Preview the ad or Insert it.  Preview opens a window with a real ad for your approval. Insert will place a representation of this ad into the editor. Let’s hit Preview and look at the ad we are going to insert into the body.

Select either preview or insert

After we click Insert This Ad, a thumbnail size image representing the ClickBank 500block appears in the editor.
Selecting either Preview or Insert

If you want to delete this ad, simply click it and press the delete key.

Here is a quick video showing how to do a ClickBank Ad Insert.

Best wishes,
